I know it is not a surprise, but we were on the road again! This time it was just for a short working holiday and NOT us moving somewhere again. Our destination – Swansea, Wales. Located on the southern coast of Wales, this beautiful coastal town is the second largest city in the country. We were lucky enough to spend a couple of days here in the late spring while the weather was gorgeous. While it was a working holiday, that didn’t stop us from squeezing in some fun activities with the kids and dogs. Here is a list of some of the places we saw in Swansea, Wales:
We found this charming, Canadian style cabin just outside of Swansea called The Rose Cotter Hill Cabin for the duration of our stay. It was exceptionally clean, and the host family was amazing. The cabin was pet-friendly and located on a large plot of land that was almost completely fenced-in. So it was the perfect place for the kids and dogs to run around. Not to mention, the place was surrounded by farmlands, so the views were breath-taking. We also had our own private hot tub for after the little ones went to bed. We could sit and read a book, or chat, while enjoying nature.

Things to Do:
Take a walk around Oystermouth Castle: I highly recommend visiting this enchanting castle with your little ones. The breath-taking views from the top will leave you in awe. It is a great place to visit and walk around for an hour or so, and don’t forget to pack a picnic and enjoy the castle’s stunning grounds.
Play some games at Mumbles Pier & Arcade: This was a great way for the kids to burn some of their energy. At Mumbles Pier & Arcade, the kids were able to run around, play arcade games, go bowling and walk around the pier. The best part was that most places were even pet friendly, so we could bring the dogs with us as well!
Stroll around Gower Peninsula: I think the photos say more than I can. My family and I LOVE the ocean. We always try to live as close to the sea as possible wherever we end up moving. So naturally, we had to take a nice walk along Gower Peninsula and just take in the beauty of Wales. It was a great walk for all ages.
Dine at The Dyffryn Arms Public House & Restaurant: This restaurant style pub was an excellent find! It had a large grassy play area with a couple of different sized playgrounds for children of all ages. The atmosphere was lively and very family friendly in the outside area. There were also some balls and other toys lying around of the kids to play with, while we had a drink. While we didn’t have any food there, it did look delicious!
Things to Do Next Time:
Visit the animals at Plantasia Tropical Zoo: While we did not actually end up getting to go here due to time restraints, it looked like a great place to take the kids. If you ended up getting the family deal, it was only £6.50 per person and toddlers under two were free of charge. The zoo focuses on conservation and aids endangered species. It is home to a large variety of animals and plants.
Visit the Uplands Market: a group of local artisan markets that offer a variety of Welsh products. The Uplands Market is hosted at different locations, so make sure to visit their website for upcoming markets. While we ran out of time to visit the market, the Marina Market overlooks the harbour and the artisans sell everything from fine jewellery and soaps to art and coffee. It looked like a great spot to take children for a walk in the morning and grab a quick lunch from one of the vendors.
While we were only in Wales for a handful of days, it was an amazing little getaway that we will be visiting again soon. My family and I enjoyed the peace and tranquillity of the rolling farm lands and the excitement of the city. If you ever get the chance to visit this charming Welsh city, I highly recommend it.
